December 14, 2011  Bud Roley with Indentification Devices,L.L.C. will be the presenter
TOPIC: Identification Devices introduces “iD” - a personal electronic identification device that utilizes a custom USB flash drive to store your complete emergency and medical information. The device features an auto-loading “form” which the owner completes to store critical, life-saving information that can be utilized by emergency personnel at the scene of an accident. Detailed information can be entered through the use of the form’s expansion fields.
Information such as medical conditions, allergies, medications, and even DNR and Living Will documents can be stored on the device to ensure that proper care is given to those in need. In addition, the form includes a photo of the owner, and the device itself is easily recognized by police, fire fighters, and EMT members because of the universal medical symbol found on its exterior.
“iD” requires no special software, and can be read using any Windows computer with a USB port (sorry, “iD” will not work on a Mac).

February 15, 2012 Abby Stokes Presentation

Listen to a reassuring, jargon-free, and totally straightforward nuts-and-bolts presentation that will introduce late bloomers, grandparents, technophobes, and the digitally challenged to all the wonders of using a computer, and have the audience using digital cameras and PDAs with ease.

The people who did not grow up with personal computers will learn everything they need to get wired: how to select, buy, and set up computer; how to sign up for e-mail and internet access, and how to use the world wide web. They will receive information on peripherals—printers, scanners, wireless modems—and basic software, such as word processing programs. They will delve further into the online world to discover search engines and web navigation, information on online banking and shopping. Security issues, "netiquette," blogs, and digital photos—transferring them from camera to computer and sending them as attachments will be discussed.
A companion website,
www.abbyandme.com, offers a safe place to practice and keep learning including recommended websites, tutorials, a resource list, and more.

Abby who has a gift for taking the terrified by the hand and teaching old dogs new tricks has single-handedly demystified computers for over 135,000 people, mostly seniors, in the course of the past 17 years. Abby has taught courses in basic computing at both Cooper Union and New York University’s School of Lifelong Learning, as well as computer skills to private and corporate clients. She has lectured on the topic across the country. A firm believer that “if my mother can learn the computer anyone can,” Abby is confident that everyone can master the computer and navigate the Internet. Abby is the author of "Is This Thing On?" A Computer Handbook for Late Bloomers, Technophobes, and the Kicking Screaming.

bullet March 21, 2011 Avast: Protecting yourself and your identity online

It’s common wisdom that avoiding suspicious web-based content and especially ‘dodgy’ websites will keep you safe on the Internet. Unfortunately, that sort of information is ‘old and outdated technology’. Internet security (protecting both your computer and your identity online) can, however, be demystified. This presentation focuses on normal computer users, rather than “IT geeks,” and clearly explains security myths, Internet dos and don’ts, the evolution of computer threats, and more. Join presenter Bob Gostischa, as he simplifies, clarifies, and demystifies your computer, making your Internet experience a safe one and explaining why even AARP recommends avast!

About the preseBob Gostischanter

Norbert “Bob” Gostischa, after a successful career in banking, enjoys his retirement as an enthusiast IT security expert, most notably for Avast Software, the creator of avast! antivirus software. The avast! website has a discussion and help forum, where Bob has been helping with security-related issues since 2004, having contributed over 15,000 forum interactions. avast! is one of the most popular antivirus softwares in the world. Avast has been making security software for over 20 years and has more than 160 million users worldwide.

Although my presentation is not a sales pitch for Avast, mentioning the company and their Software in your announcements would still be appreciated.
