“Database” classes offered by the Rock Shadows RockComp Computer Club.

Informational sheet concerning “Database” classes offered by the Rock Shadows RockComp Computer Club. This class is good for beginners and will allow you to be more comfortable around a computer. Lots of tips and education, even if you have never used a computer before. Must be a member of RockComp Computer Club to take advantage of this class.

This training class will create a database called “Address Book”.

A database is compiled information. A database consists of “Records” (rows) and “Fields” (columns). A “Record” may contain numerous “Fields”. A “Record” may be a person, an item of inventory, or real property, etc. A “Field” may contain information about a person, piece of equipment, or real property, etc.

NOTE: We teach version 7.5 Microsoft Works 2000. Many newer laptops and computers come with a more updated version. The basics are the same, but to access some of the files and tasks, you will find that your version is not as user friendly. We ask that you review your software program and get familiar with the commands; they will be different than what we teach. You may require additional help and more time to learn the process.

You will need to have the following items when you attend your first class:

quick drive or CD-RW
Pencil or pen
Folder or notebook

This class will meet once a week for 1 1/2 hours in the computer lab room. There will be four training sessions. You will learn how to complete the following tasks:

Creating a database
Sorting your records
Creating reports
Form design and filters
Labels
Envelopes
Form letter, (mail merge)
