ROCKCOMP COMPUTER CLUB

The RockComp Members Lounge has been unavailable part of the time this past week. Recently there seems to have been a lot of down time. I have been unsuccessful in trying to contact the host. They will not answer the phone and do not always respond to my e-mails. This has led me to think that they may have fallen on hard times. I finally got someone to answer the telephone Thursday afternoon but she was apparently a receptionist who knew nothing. She told me that they were not going out of business and would have the owner call me. I am still waiting for the call. In the past this host has always been very accommodating and would respond very quickly. I hope that I do not have to find a new host so will wait and see.

It all depends on how you look at it

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, 'How was the trip?'
'It was great, Dad.'
'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked.
'Oh yeah,' said the son.
'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father.
The son answered:
'I saw that we have one dog and they had four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon..
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.'
The boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added, 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.'
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.
Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!
Pass this on to friends and acquaintances and help them refresh their perspective and appreciation.

'Life is too short and friends are too few.'

Linda Driver sent this to me and I thought it was worth repeating.

Recipe of the Week
by Eileen Lettenmaier

 Berry Surprise

Eileen served this dish at the Clark's anniversary party and I thought it was great. Many of you probably have not heard of Marionberries as they are generally grown in a small area near Salem, OR. Click here to read about them. They are one of our favorites.

I had some frozen blackberries, some frozen blueberries, and a big bag of frozen mixed berries (Costco: raspberries, blueberries, & marionberries) -- and a need to fix something for the Clark's party -- AND to clean out my freezer or at least start in that direction. So, below is my improvised "recipe" giving the amounts as close as possible since I really didn't measure any of it.

1 cup blackberries

2 cups blueberries

Enough mixed berries to fill a 9" X 12" pan to the desired depth (approximately 3 cups)

(I thawed the berries, in the pan, in the microwave before continuing -- they were still pretty cool)

Mix together: 1/2 cup sugar & 1 1/2 T "Heart Smart Bisquick"

Add to the cool berries

Dot with butter -- approximately 1 1/2 T

I made one recipe of "Heart Smart Bisquick" biscuits and dropped spoonfuls of dough over the berries.

Bake on lower shelf in 400 degree oven until biscuits are brown (18 minutes in my oven)

The good old days

Check this site out. As all of us are Senior Citizens you will probably appreciate how it used to be.

News from Prescott Valley

In the May 22nd newsletter I reported that the Valley had fourteen straight days with temperatures above 100°. Well, now they have had fourteen straight days with temperatures below 100°. We have been going through a cool spell with temps barley reaching 70° here in the Prescott area. The forecast is for raising temps starting Friday.
The price of gasoline at Costco in Prescott is $2.31.

The Diamondbacks have now won 28 games and lost 38 games for a .424 average. They are now fifteen games out of first place and in last place in the National League West. Only the Washington Nationals have a lower average in all of Major League Baseball.
