News from Alberta

We had a great trip home. Saw a few snow flurries in northern AZ and southern UT but they melted before they hit the ground. The rest of the way was great. The weather since we've been home has been good although today we are getting snow flurries that are melting after they land. Guess spring is just not ready to fully arrive and push ole man winter away.

Had coffee on the 6th with Dale & Elsie Clark in Great Falls MT. All is well there too.

All was well here at home with just a little snow still on the ground on the north side of the fence.

Daughter Shari lost her mother in law the AM we left the unit so attended a gathering for her on Good Friday in Calgary. Glad we were home to support their family.

Cheers! Irv & Penny Swanson

RockComp Computer Club Business Meeting April 01, 2009

Minutes of Exec Meeting...March 31, 2009

President Dale Clark opened the exec meeting of RockComp at 9:00 AM March 31 in the Rickard Lab. Those present were Dale Clark, Dale Fosjord, Chuck Rickard, Jim Lettenmaier, Irv & Penny Swanson.

Penny Swanson acting as substitute secretary read the minutes of the March exec meeting.

Dale Fosjord was unable to open his files on the computer in the lab so decided that his report would be waived and given just at the general meeting.

There was a general discussion on classes for the 09-10 season. Open labs were also discussed at length with the consensus that we have at least one more night. Open labs were well used this year.

Chuck gave his opinion of the new Conflict C worm that is supposed to hit computers on April 1. Chuck feels the ordinary guy need not worry as we are outside the target area, those being big corporations, government, universities etc.

Problems with the internet rose again and not being able to get on line at meeting when it is needed. We batted around various solutions. Decided that Chuck would try his router and then see what happens.

Having a meal as a fund raiser was also discussed. Dale will try to book at date for one with Peggy and then we will decide in the fall what kind of meal, if any that we will have.

Wells Fargo sent out 2 debits cards. Neither Dale F or Dale C feel they want to use them so they have been returned to Wells Fargo. We wish to continue using cheques.

Jim attended and gave a report on the EVAAC and AZAAC meetings.

A discussion followed on whether we should put our old computers in the lobby for use by the general park residents. We have at least 2 computers that could be used for dial up for any one who wanted to use them.

The meeting adjourned at 10:20 AM

Minutes of RockComp General meeting April 1,2009

President Dale Clark brought the April general meeting to order at 9:30 AM.

All stood and pledged allegiance to the flag of the USA. Dale then introduced the club officers.

Penny Swanson as substitute secretary made the motion that the minutes the March general meeting be adopted as posted on the RockComp website. Fred Kudym seconded the motion but with the change of time from 6:00 PM to 4-6 PM for the potluck supper. Carried

Dale C read the treasurers report. We have $1559.49 in our account with several cheques still outstanding. Jim Lettenmaier moved the reports as read, seconded by Grace Lunt.

Jim Lettenmaier gave the EVAAC & AZAAC reports. Jim will go to the April meeting at Las Palmas Grande on April 13. The March meeting at Golden Vista revealed that they too are having problems with internet during presentations. We are not alone with that problem. Dale & Jim went to the March 28 meeting and found they are having problems getting speakers and some are using a webcast for speakers.

Chuck bought a Hawking Hi-Gain Signal Booster on EBay (corrected: from Amazon.com) for $30.00 less than he could get it in a store. He paid $61.95 for it. This booster will enable us to receive signal from the lab for our internet.

A general discussion on classes and instructors with various ideas a being put forth.

Grace is working on the manual for next years new members.

Don brought several print outs of an article in the Mesa Tribune regarding the Conflict C worm. These were passed out to all those present.

Don served free coffee this AM. He said people were so generous in their donations that he was able to have $18.00 deposited in the bank as a result.

Fred said it was so good to see so many using the BBS and hoped we'd all continue to use it over the summer.

Fred made the motion for adjournment, seconded by Darlene Johnson Carried.

News from The Valley of The Sun

The weather has turned cool this past week. It only hit about 65° today but high 90s are promised for next week.
Jery and I will be relocating to Prescott Valley the 25th.

The Diamondbacks continue to lose most games. They have now lost six games and won three only ahead of San Francisco by one half game. They start a three game series against the San Francisco Giants tomorrow. Of course we have faith that this is only the beginning and things will turn around.
