RockComp Computer Club Business Meeting March 04, 2009

President Jim Lettenmaier called the meeting to order at 9:30 AM in Rock Shadows’ main recreation hall. Jim mentioned that we had special guests today and introduced us to his daughter-in-law and grand daughter who were accompanied by his wife, Eileen.

All members stood and pledged allegiance to the American flag.

Secretary Penny Swanson moved that the minutes of the February 4th business meeting be accepted as printed in the newsletter posted on the club website. The motion was seconded by Chuck Rickard and carried by the members.

Treasurer Ruth Fisher reported that as of March 2nd our balance is $1,577.33. Fred Kudym made a motion that the report be accepted, Deloris Woodrow seconded it and was carried by the members.

Certificates and gift certificates were presented by Dale Clark and Jim Lettenmaier to instructors: Linda Krecklau, Penny Swanson, Jean Frey, Pat Mueller, Ruth Fisher, Barbara Hocking, Hugh Neidffer (absent), Irv Swanson, Geneva Setiz and Diane Puukila.

‘Lending A Hand’ certificates and gift certificates were presented to: Deloris Woodrow, Ruth Klassen, Grace Lunt, Darlene Johnson (absent), Eldon Johnson, Dale Clark, Pat Muller, Chuck Richard, Fred Kudym and Gary Gohman .

Don Hamilton received the ‘Volunteer of the Season’ certificate.

An outgoing certificate for Edna Pelletier will be sent to her.

New officers were installed, the outgoing officers were presented certificates.

New President Dale Clark then recognized the trustees.

Dale also acknowledged Gary Gohman for his representing us at AZ acc meetings for the last 5 or 6 years. Gary would like to step away from this responsibility and asked if someone else would like to represent RockComp.

REPORTS:

AZ acc (Arizona Alliance of Computer Clubs): Jim Lettenmaier attended the January 24th business meeting. The southwest computer conference will be held May 29th, 30th and 31st in San Diego, CA. If anyone would like to attending the meeting on March 28th, please contact Dale C.

EVACC: Dale C. reported on the February 9th that he and Jim attended at View Point. The next meeting is at Golden Vista on March 9th.

OLD BUSINESS:

Don Hamilton reported membership total of 119 members.

It was decided to cancel the remaining Genealogy classes since attendance dwindled last week to one person.

Fred Kudym gave us some dates for next season. The two RockComp Monday morning coffee hour 50/50 raffles will be on November 30th, 2009 and February 22nd, 2010. The annual RockComp potluck will be held on in the recreation hall on Thursday, February 25th, 2010 at 6:30 PM.

Grace Lunt will soon start work on the manuals for new members. She would like to update the list of resource people who offer assistance to members. Anyone willing to have their name on the list should contact Grace. She would also appreciate information on each course offered along with the instructor’s name and number.

The computer lab is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7 – 9. However if no one shows up by 7:30, the person manning the lab will close it and go home.

Chuck told us that the scanner works, but not on Vista.

NEW BUSINESS:

Dale C. brought up the discussion of the Rock Shadows’ St. Patrick’s day parade. He asked if there is any interest in the club participating in the parade. Dale will check with Peggy in the activity office to get more information concerning the parade and to see if the park would reimburse us for our decorating expenses if the club participated.

We will need instructors and/or speakers for next season. One speaker we would like to get back again is Pat Davis from SOS. His program is very interesting and informative. Another speaker being considered for next season is Brandon of TCF Bank. If you have any suggestions for speakers please let the board know.

Ruth Fisher suggested that we have a ‘resource person’ whom people would contact when they want to sell or buy items. Chuck Rickard volunteered to be our ‘resource person’.

Jeanne Frye and Pat Mueller have discussed a different format for the digital camera class next season. They are thinking about working with beginners in the 1st hour of class and in the 2nd hour and working with the advance users on computers in the lab.

Winston Heogh brought up the subject of the members’ bulletin board on our website and that fact that it is under utilized. The bulletin board is a valuable resource for members to use to keep in touch. Winston is issuing us a challenge … he is posting his challenge on the bulletin board today and we will have to check it out there. If you have forgotten your user name and password contact Chuck.

Ruth Klassen inquired if our newsletters could be archived and Chuck said that, ‘Yes, they can.’

Next week Jim Lettenmaier will speak about juke box radio, Chuck will inform us about how to use E-bay and, if she is available, Ruth Fisher will talk about Craig’s List.

Jeanne Frye and Pat Mueller will entertain us at the March 25th meeting with pictures from the Desert Botanical Garden.

Our thanks to Pat Mueller for the great job she does with the weekly newsletter. Thanks for stepping in when Edna left.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jim Lettenmaier and seconded by Ruth Fisher.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:35.

Respectfully submitted by Carol Hayden, Secretary
