News From Rock Shadows

Just a little bit of news here. Not too much is going on at Rock Shadows right now although we are seeing some familiar faces returning but it is still pretty quiet.

I received a phone call from Ed Keeney who lives on 2nd street and he asked me to pass this bit of information about Esther Hasper. Esther and Arnold Hasper lived at 216 and they left Rock Shadows in 2008. Esther fell recently and is presently in a nursing home in South Dakota. If anyone would like to send Esther a card her address is: 618C Avenue, Box 392, Pollock, S.D. 57648.

News From Other Places

News from Michigan

Hi greeting from Michigan. We have had a busy summer. Seems like all we've done is run run run and now it's almost time to pack up and run again. I do have some news though. For those who knew Marilyn Reed , she lived on fourth street on the south end , she passed away Sat morning. She had a blood infection and had gone into the hospital, then into a rehab place where she talked about going home and then the next morning she couldn't get out of bed and ultimately passed away. She had been in the park since about 1986 . We had been friends since that time and was my galavanting pal. We got together this summer the Michigan group at Jim Carrolls. Nettie and Dick Clark were there also so it was nice to see them. We will be leaving here around the 18th of Oct and getting there whenever. Might stop by Branson for a break unless we have to dog sit for a friend in Fountain Hills and then we don't have time for breaks. Well sorry I didn't write all summer but it takes me till half the summer is over before I remember to read the newsletter but I do enjoy hearing from anyone who does write.

See you all soon Katie

News from Iowa

I'm to have a new hip replacement on Sept. 21 but as of now we plan on leaving here on the 24th of Oct, we will see.
They are doing corn and beans so the crops are doing well.
Hope everyone has a good trip down to AZ.

More news from Iowa

We have had 3.2 inches of rain this week. The National Weather service states 100% chance of rain for Thursday Sept. 23. We combined beans on Friday and did a little over 40 acres. They were delivered on Saturday. We combined corn today and it is testing 22% moister and will need to be dried. The corn is from the field you have been seeing pictures of all summer. Our nephew Joel is driving the combine and our grandson William is riding with him. This corn field looks to be one of the best corn fields we have. The deer pictures were by the bean field and Donna couldn't resist snapping a couple of shots. We hope everyone is getting along well.

News from Prescott Valley

Here it is closing in on the end of September and the Valley is still experiencing summer time temperatures. Last Sunday Phoenix had a record high of 111°. It did cool down Tuesday and Wednesday with heavy rain in places but it has warmed up again. We received very little rain in the Prescott area. We had a high temperature of 90° in Prescott last week.

I hope everyone has a pleasant, safe trip returning to Rock Shadows. Jery and I plan on returning October 31st.

The Diamondbacks are still solidly in last place in the National League, Western Division. Now 24 1/2 games behind first place San Diego. So far they have won 61 games and lost 91 for a .401 average. There are only 10 games left in this season.

The D-backs named Kevin Towers the third general manager in franchise history on Wednesday, nearly five years after choosing Josh Byrnes over him to replace Joe Garagiola Jr. in October 2005. Towers, who will now get to compete in the same division as the Padres, where he served as GM for 14 years before being dismissed late last season by owner Jeff Moorad.
