News from Washington State

Wenatchee has been up and down in the weather just like all the other parts of this great country. We had 100 degrees for several weeks and now this morning, it was in the 50’s and only a high of 70 degrees by Sunday. We had a main water line from the street to the house break on us several weeks back, that of course has been our main focus. We had to hire someone to dig down about 10 feet in our yard to locate the break. The line is only 56 years old, why would it break. We decided to just fix the break and cover it all back up and pray that it does not break again for many years after we are “gone”. The weather was hot and the water line was in the sun all day. The person we hired worked right through the job and we of course supplied lots of liquids, but how he did it, we don’t know. We now have to locate more top soil as in the digging, we removed about 2 yards of rock, some the size of bowling balls. We knew that we lived in rocky soil, but this is more than we expected, The project is pretty much done and the grass with lots of watering is starting to return to green after we removed all the dirt that was piled on the grass. Mel has experienced hip pain and rashes on his legs and arms. We have been to the doctor several times, they can’t figure out what is the problem, we know that he does not have bone cancer as tests have proven that he is cancer free at this time. We are making plans to come back this fall to Rock Shadows. The situation with my folks has not changed, our support family advises us to go on with our lives, so we hope to return by the first week of November which is not that long away. Chuck will you put our trash out on Nov. 2nd, we know we will not be there that soon!!! Ruth is working just a few more days this month and then just waiting for the next phone call to come back in, nothing more scheduled this season, but that can change real quick. We have a grandson getting married in October and our youngest son will be 40 this week, so a big family gathering is planned. Gas here is $3.18. We will be driving back, so keep the prices low. Was sadden to hear of Harvey Holbrook passing, our sympathy to Sonia and family. Jerry and Patty Vetter (space 930) hosted a Rock Shadows Washington residents get together on the 7th of August. There were over 30 people there and a great time was had by all. Patty and Jerry are looking for some who would like to plan the potluck next year. They have done it for the past 2 summers and feel that it is time to pass the torch. If anyone from Washington would like to step up to the plate, please contact Patty and Jerry this upcoming winter with ideas and locations. See you all soon and do enjoy reading about all our friends and summer fun.

News from Nebraska

I go to the doctor next week to see if the catheter can be removed from my right chest and the dialysis treatments can start with needles in my left arm. I am looking forward to the change because it is difficult to shower as I must keep the catheter dry when I shower. With the needle treatment and cooler weather soon, I am looking forward to start playing golf again as I have gotten a lot of my energy back. Fortunately, when I play golf with Joe Burkardt, it is on Tuesday since my dialysis treatments are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Ruth's hair appointments are on Thursdays,
Speaking of cooler weather, we had amazing low temperatures in the mid 50's Wednesday and Thursday mornings with highs in the high 70's and low humidity. It isn't going to last to long because Sunday we will be back in the 90's.
Chuck, I hope you get all good news this week and hear from a lot of our members since you didn’t get to much news last week

News from Iowa

Hello Chuck and Rock Shadows Friends. We are finally getting a break from our hot and humid and rainy weather. We have been able to turn off the Air and open windows which we haven't been able to do since last of May. I'm wondering if we are going to have a early fall???
Just wanted to say that we stopped and visited with Gerald and Bev Sofranko the last of July. They are doing great and they both look great. When we stopped, they were just getting ready to go to Mass so we joined them and then went back to their house and had a bite to eat and a very nice visit. We are also having our Rock Shadows Summer get-together today (Aug 26th) and looking forward to seeing many more of our RS friends.
We are trying to finish up some projects so we can start thinking about heading Southwest. We love our time with family and friends here in Iowa but also look forward to our winters in Arizona. We are getting all our doctor appointments taken care of and so far, so good!!!
So sorry to get the news from Sonia that Harv had passed away. Our prayers are with her and her family.
God Bless and have a safe trip back to RS.

News from Prescott Valley

It has been a mild week for us weather wise. Very little Monsoon activity. The Valley has been getting hammered though. Tuesday evening two Valley TV stations were off the air due to storm related power outages. One for two hours and one for one hour. The election results were delayed also due to the power outages. These powerful storms can cause widespread damage. We do not get the Monsoon damage here in the Prescott area as they do down in the flat country.
There seems to be very few members interested in the BBS. Why is that?

The Diamondbacks are still solidly in last place in the National League, Western Division. Now 28 games behind first place San Diego. So far they have won 49 games and lost 78 for a .386 average.

Tuesday and Wednesday the Diamondbacks played first place San Diego. What a farce, the last place team playing the first place team. It might not be so bad if the last place team was not 28 games behind the first place team. Tuesday they lost 5 to 0 and Wednesday it was 9 to 3.

Although I like baseball, I do not watch the Diamondbacks as often as I used to.
It is just not exciting when they usually lose.
