News From Rock Shadows: 30 residents enjoyed the 4th of July
holiday with a pot luck in the Gold Room organized by Ione Nelson
and Vi Matlick. Ralph Lutz and Gary Nelson did a great job of
grilling sirloin burgers and hot dogs provided by the Activity
Office. A number of residents watched the fireworks from the putting
green - they were set off at AJ High School.
We were all saddened by the news that Bill Graham passed way on July
2nd. He and Joanne wintered in Rock Shadows for 23 years.
We have 11 workkampers this summer in the park providing security at
the gate and housekeeping services, for which all us are greatful.
There will be another birthday celebration on July 13th in the Gold
Room for all residents celebrating birthdays in July.
Frank and I enjoyed a trip to San Diego in June to visit our first
great granddaughter, Malorie Rachel, our grandson, Michael, Jr. and
his wife, Nicole. Then we were off to Temecula for a hot air balloon
and wine festival. Frank and our daughter, Debra, took a hot air
balloon ride. There are 35 wineries in the area. Needless to say, we
did not taste all of the wines. Vi Matlick did a great job of
covering the post office while we were away.
Our grandson, Mathew, is coming for a visit this Friday. He is being
deployed to Afghanistan at the end of July for a second tour of
duty. He has already been in Iraq. Lets keep all of our servicemen in
our thoughts and prayers.

Dad passed away at our home on Friday morning, July 2nd. He was active
and doing things until Sunday when we celebrated our oldest
granddaughters 14th birthday. We even got to a Minnesota Twins game at
their new outdoor stadium two weeks prior to his death. It was my
privilege to take care of Dad during his last few months of life. As a
friend told me the morning of his passing - "He helped you into this
world almost 62 years ago, and you were able to help him leave". He died
on his terms, with family.
Sue Young Bill's daughter.Bill Graham passed away on July 2nd at our
home in Zimmerman, Minnesota. He was active until the Sunday before his
death, when we celebrated his great-granddaughter’s 14th birthday. We
were able to take him to a Minnesota Twins baseball game at the new
stadium two weeks prior to his passing. My husband and I were able to
grant his final request to die at home with family. He passed away
quietly during the night without pain. Although he had lung cancer, the
hospice nurse felt he passed away from metasis to his brain. I have
included his obituary in it’s entirety. In case anyone wants to get a
hold of us my email is sue.young@sherbtel.net
or our address is 12434 284th Avenue N.W.,
Zimmerman, MN 55398.

This is wonderful getting the news from
all over. We are having a weird summer so far it rains every day and
some wicked storms. We haven't been out on the golf course hardly at
all because the mosquito's are the size of birds and it's not
pleasant. Wayne is playing ball and I am volunteering at the
hospital and still doing a few 5 buck haircuts. Keep all the news
coming ,and we really like the recipes.

Driver's permit
|
A young boy had just gotten his driver's permit and inquired of
his father if they could discuss his use of the car. His father said
he'd make a
deal with his son.
"You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible
a little, get your hair cut and we'll talk about the car."
The boy thought about that for a moment decided he'd settle for the
offer and they agreed on it.
After about six weeks his father said, "Son, I'm real proud of you.
You brought your grades up and I've observed that you have been
studying your Bible, but I'm disappointed you haven't gotten your
hair cut."
The young man paused a moment then said, "You know, Dad, I've been
thinking about that, and I've noticed in my studies of the Bible
that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had
long hair and there's even a strong argument that Jesus had long
hair.
And his father replied, "Did you notice
they all walked everywhere they went.

Thanks Ruth for the news
from Rock Shadows. Everyone enjoys to hear about their winter home.
We still enjoy beautiful weather. The people who forecast the weather
around here tell us the Monsoon may kick in This Friday, Saturday and
Sunday. We all know though that they are not always right. I believe our
last rain was April 21st.
How do you like the new
RockComp web site format? Any comments or ideas? I was getting tired of
the yellow cactus stuff.

Well, it finally happened. The Diamondbacks fired the Manager and the
General Manager. Many of us believe that should have happened a long
time ago. The manager, A. J. Hinch had zero experience. Not even as a
coach.
The new interim manager is Kirk Gibson who was formally the Bench Coach.
He has a long history in Major League Baseball. Some of you might
remember him from the 80s and 90s. He last played for Detroit.
The Diamondbacks won their first game under the direction of the new
manager against the Dodgers, 12 to 5. But, have lost the next 5 games. I
guess we cannot expect miracles.
The Diamondbacks are still solidly in last place in the National League,
Western Division. Now 17 1/2 games behind first place San Diego. So far
they have won 32 games and lost 53 for a .376 average. Only Pittsburg
has a lower average in the National League. The Diamondbacks are in 1st
place in the National League for errors.
