News from Alberta |
On June 6th Stan & I travelled to Innisfail, Ab. to take in the
Shuffleboard Tournament. They had 108 entries. Competitors came from
British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Montana, Oregon and
Washington. The games are played in the curling rink on 12 boards so the
cold rainy weather we had last week didn't affect the play.
It was great to meet out Snowbird friends from Arizona. Former Rock
Shadows residents Cliff and Kay Kristjansen, space #539, from Neepawa,
Man. were able to make it this year after Cliff got a good doctors
report. Don & Lucille MacMillan, space# 539 were also competing, we all
enjoyed being together like old times. On the 11th we headed to High
River, Ab. for another tournament, again a fun time. High River had 100
entries and is also held in their curling rink. Some people were heading
to Brooks from High River to take in their tournament. The Alberta
Shuffleboard Association have the tournaments set up so they follow
close together, this way anyone travelling a distance can get in all
three. We didn't bring home any trophies or money but had a great week
with our shuffling friends.
Chuck I enjoy reading the newsletter - hope others will keep news coming
in.

News from Nebraska

Greetings from Nebraska........
We had way to much snow last winter {glad we were in AZ} Now we are
having too much rain. The rivers are flooding, roads are closed and
some towns have been evacuated. We have water standing in our back
yard and my garden in a mud hole. The seeds from our large maple
tree are coming up in the yard and garden. They are higher than the
lawn. We can't mow because it keeps raining. The yard could be a
forest. With all the rain, the mosquitoes have come in force. I
guess There is no place like Nebraska! Bob and I are taking the
Columbus High cheerleaders to Lake Okaboji, Iowa on the bus this
week. They are going to a cheer camp. We have been doing this for 3
years. In Sept. we plan a trip to Washington D.C. This will be the
first time either of us have been to the nations capital. We enjoy
hearing from everyone on RockComp and are looking forward to
returning to AZ.

It was great to see several news items in this weeks
newsletter. I really enjoy hearing about the RS people.
We have gone to graduation receptions for Pat and Milo
Snyder's two grandsons. Some of you know that Pat is my (Sonia)
sister. It is getting more difficult to get Harv around to things
but he seems to enjoy going anyway.
Our weather her has been rather on the cool side along with
several warm muggy days thrown in here and there. They said that we
have had over 40 days of rain this year and all of us around here
are wishing it would clear off for a while. I have my garden in pots
on my patio except for one tomato plant in the ground. We moved into
a townhouse (condo) last summer and don't have any place for a
garden now. Of course they take care of the lawn and we like that.
Glad to hear Fred is doing better. For now from Nebraska,

Thank you - I just read the
newsletter. It is always a pleasure to hear what is happening with
friends and even some I do not remember. Maybe there are not many
out there that still remember me. It has been 7 years since I left
Rock Shadows. I have a lot of very good memories from there and I do
send and receive e-mails from some. I bowled here last winter and I
am looking forward to getting in some golf this summer- but I hope
it warms up a bit more!! My daughter keeps me busy and I do not
always stay out of trouble. It is rather cool here lately but I am
sure the heat will show up eventually. My daughter has us signed up
to volunteer in July to volunteer for a Stillwater garden tour. We
have done that every summer since I have been up here. I have
several craft items that I keep busy with. A few weeks ago we went
up and visited with Frank Zimmerman , and his family. Frank and
Tillie spent quite a few years at R/S. But I can tell you - my years
in R/S were the greatest!!! Doing the mail there for many years was
the neatest thing I have done!! How else would I have met so many
NEAT friends?? Well I just wanted to get my two cents worth in-- and
to say hello to all. This is a good thing you do chuck and Jery-
thank you so much-- and so long until the next time--Sandy Goss

Life
isn't
about
waiting
for
the
storm
to
pass.
It's
about
learning
to
dance
in
the
rain.
Cucumber
1. Cucumbers
contain most of the vitamins you need every
day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1,
Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin
B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron,
Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.
2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down
the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber.
Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins
and Carbohydrates that can provide that
quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.
3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up
after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice
along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog
and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.
4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting
beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin
and your garden will be free of pests all
season long. The chemicals in the cucumber
react with the aluminum to give off a scent
undetectable to humans but drive garden
pests crazy and make them flee the area.
5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove
cellulite before going out or to the pool?
Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers
along your problem area for a few minutes,
the photochemical in the cucumber cause the
collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up
the outer layer and reducing the visibility
of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!!
6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible
headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before
going to bed and wake up refreshed and
headache free. Cucumbers contain enough
sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to
replenish essential nutrients the body lost,
keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding
both a hangover and headache!!
7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or
evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been
used for centuries and often used by
European trappers, traders and explores for
quick meals to thwart off starvation.
8. Have an important meeting or job
interview and you realize that you don't
have enough time to polish your shoes? Rub a
freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its
chemicals will provide a quick and durable
shine that not only looks great but also
repels water.
9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky
hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it
along the problematic hinge, and voila, the
squeak is gone!
10. Stressed out and don't have time for
massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up
an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling
pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients
from the cucumber with react with the
boiling water and be released in the steam,
creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has
been shown the reduce stress in new mothers
and college students during final exams.
11. Just finish a business lunch and realize
you don't have gum or mints? Take a slice of
cucumber and press it to the roof of your
mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to
eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials
will kill the bacteria in your mouth
responsible for causing bad breath.
12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your
faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a
slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface
you want to clean, not only will it remove
years of tarnish and bring back the shine,
but is won't leave streaks and won't harm
you fingers or fingernails while you clean.
13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the
outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to
erase the pen writing, also works great on
crayons and markers that the kids have used
to decorate the walls!!

News from Prescott Valley

Not much going on here this week. We
drove to Flagstaff Wednesday for an appointment with Jery's Dr. We have
found a Dr. there that knows how to treat her leg ulcer. We have been
going to him for a couple of years now. We had lunch at the Beaver
Street Brewery which is a great place to eat if you ever go to
Flagstaff.
Our weather is still beautiful as always. No sign yet of a Monsoon
storm.

Well, the Diamondbacks have won 2 games since the last newsletter and
lost 3. They are
still solidly in
last place in the National
League, Western Division, 12 1/2 games behind first place San Diego. So far they have won
26 games and lost 40 for a
.394 average. They are starting to trade players but I don't think that
is the problem. I think that there is no hope until they decide to do
something about the management.
